A youtube presenter whose channel is called “Debunk the Funk with Dr. Wilson”, and his colleague Thomas Baldwin, attempted to “debunk” Dr. Tom Cowan and Dr. Andy Kaufman, by citing a “scientific” paper purported to show the existence of the imaginary “SARS-COV-2”.
Tom and Andy responded with a video (which I cannot find at the moment), explaining that the methodology used in the paper In situ structural analysis of SARS-CoV-2 spike reveals flexibility mediated by three hinges was unscientific and could not possibly show the existence of an alleged “virus”. Below are some additional notes about the paper.
The starting point for this paper is the so-called “SARS-COV-2 isolate” MUC-IMB1 (referred to simply as MUC-1 in the paper’s supplementary materials). (Note: the link to the supplementary materials is not broken, despite WordPress indicating that it is).
According to the paper: “The authors are indebted to G. Dobler and R. Wölfel, Bundeswehr Institute for Microbiology, for providing SARS-CoV-2 strain MUC-IMB1”.
I emailed Dr. Dobler with a query re the MUC-1 “isolate”.
Dr. Dobler graciously responded:
Germany/BavPat1/2020 is not isolated “virus”, and it has never been shown to have anything to do with a “virus”. Germany/BavPat1/2020 is just more Corman/Drosten monkey-business fraud.
You can see the various names for this faux “isolate” on a supplier’s website https://www.beiresources.org/…/animalviruses/NR-52370.aspx:
“isolate Germany/BavPat1/2020 (also referred to as Germany/MUC-IMB1/2020 or Human/DEU/BavPat1-ChVir929/2020)“.
Note the supplier’s description of the “isolate”:
“Each vial contains approximately 0.5 mL of cell lysate and supernatant from Cercopithecus aethiops kidney cells infected with SARS-CoV-2, isolate Germany/BavPat1/2020.“

The supplier references GISAID: EPI_ISL_406862, and if you click on the GenBank link that is listed, it takes you to the entry for a Corman/Drosten “genome”, “Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 isolate SARS-CoV-2/human/DEU/BavPat1-ChVir929/2020, complete genome“, shown below.

In this paper, the faux “genome” was fabricated but they don’t seem to mention having “isolated the virus”.
However, if you go to another paper by Corman, Drosten, etc “Virological assessment of hospitalized patients with COVID-2019” https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-020-2196-x, here they claim to have “isolated the virus” (on Vero aka monkey kidney cells!) and provide the same accession number that is listed on the “isolate” supplier’s web page:
“Sequence data are available in Gisaid under accession number EPI_ISL_406862“.
In the paper’s Supplementary Information the detailed description of the author’s faux “Virus Isolation” methods are provided:
The method described above is the usual unscientific monkey cell culture nonsense.
Particles alleged to be “SARS-COV-2” have never been isolated/purified, which is necessary in order for them to be sequenced, characterized and studied with controlled experiments.
Thus, the alleged disease-spreading virus with a 30,000 base pair RNA genome and spikey protein shell that uses the ACE2 receptor has never been shown to exist.
And so we see that, as with all other “covid” research, the protein analyzed in In situ structural analysis of SARS-CoV-2 spike reveals flexibility mediated by three hinges has never been shown to have anything to do with a virus.
